Elegy of an Age
Alas! for the folly of mortal man, I cry
Out to the Heavens for deliverance
Those spirits of the stars that only sigh
While we lead ourselves in bitter dance
For our lunacy the moon does weep
The sun, in her woe, turns away her face
We blind ourselves and walk as though asleep
Deaf'ning ourselves to this fall from grace
Weep, cleansed children, mercy-sav'd
For those who'll never walk the cherub-trod
Threshold of the Galaxies engraved
With the endless luster of the Son of God.
Out to the Heavens for deliverance
Those spirits of the stars that only sigh
While we lead ourselves in bitter dance
For our lunacy the moon does weep
The sun, in her woe, turns away her face
We blind ourselves and walk as though asleep
Deaf'ning ourselves to this fall from grace
Weep, cleansed children, mercy-sav'd
For those who'll never walk the cherub-trod
Threshold of the Galaxies engraved
With the endless luster of the Son of God.
