Dissecting Boredom
I am thoroughly convinced that "bored" is a highly ambiguous, vague, and non-descriptive word. We have all been taught socially that to be bored is just something that happens when there's nothing to do, but this is such a broad definition. There are other more intense and accurate words that one could use in those moments where we cop out and exclaim, usually with a groan, "I'm so bored!" For me, when I feel "bored", the emotions I'm feeling at the time could be more colorfully captured as "restless", "frustrated", "useless", "tired", "depressed." When given adequate thought, "bored" is a verb that truly expresses no particular meaning besides arcing a plethora of other words. So, at present, am I bored? Not so - rather, I am a tangled mess of agitation, exhaustion, and wanderlust. Discontented, yet optimistic, and conflicted. The oversimplification of "just being bored" is unworthy of the complex character of humanity.
