Invisible Me
I want to fade out for a while.
I never used to get the draw of being invisible...
now I do.
Just for a while.
Just until the earth rotates enough.
Just until the leaves fall and ground thaws a few times in a row.
Maybe that's why
people disappear - whether in real life or from a Facebook profile -
they want to know if their absence
means anything
to anyone
or if their presence
actually makes a damn sight of difference
to the people they love
and if the people they love
love the invisible people as much
as the invisible people
love them.
There is no space to fall
and human arms always collapse under an unexpected weight.
They prefer we be invisible -
invisible things are always easier to bear.
Maybe it's because
I have known an ache and loss and yearning hole
for so many.
I know my own mind.
I know I would miss you.
I know I would miss you.
I've been broken a billion times and own my tears
but I often wonder
how long, how hard
how sad
if I were to simply loose my grip on gravity
would anyone realize
would anyone try to stop me
from floating into space?
No.
Our hands are too slow.
Our grip is too weak.
Fall.
I dare you.
Fall with eyes wide open.
See who catches you.
Yet divinity always stops me short
when no one else sees me
when no one hears
the unspoken scream
of desperation
and rests its forehead to mine
with a message
carried gently in the palm of the universe
and softly breathed
into my lungs:
"Do not put your trust in princes,
in human beings,
who cannot save."
in human beings,
who cannot save."
