Reflecting (Micro-fiction)

She looked back at me with furrowed brows. Dark, disappointed eyes shone with tears. Again, I had made a choice she wished I hadn’t. How many times she had gazed at me that way and sighed so deeply...sighed because she knew I could be so much better. Would I ever fulfill her dreams and desires? Rise to her standards? Learn to avoid the things that caused pain to her and those she loved?

I wiped the bleeding mascara and turned away from the bathroom mirror.
