Wapato

Water lilies
White stars on a grounded sky
Lighted cities
Reflections of the moon, a sigh
Broken bridges
Spreading over ribbons of its light
Dampened ridges
A shore, a city, a lake, a night
Softened edges
Mist and twilight duskly fall
Reeded ledges
A duckling slips. His mother calls
Rocky groves
Centered there a rippling pool
Rumbling droves
Of insects in the cool
Trickling drops
From willow leaves, like sparks
Speaking stops
What spells cast in the dark!
